Cam Newton gives back so next generation

CHARLOTTE, N.C. It was hot, unbearably hot. But there was Cam Newton, striding onto the turf field at Revolution Park. We would stand the corners at a stoplight, or haveteamcar washes, trying to get donations so we could afford, to get new uniforms, new cleats. Those were types of events we kind of took for granted, but our coaches made us rally together."There is a youth sports crisis in America.Dick's Sporting Goods claims that an estimated$3.5 billion was cut from school sports budgets during the 2009-11 school years. According to a 2012joint study by the University of Michigan and the Women's Sports Foundation,27 percentof U.S. public high schools will not have sports by 2020 if the trend continues."Sports impact a lot of people's lives without them even knowing it," Newton continued. "It provides kids with positive energy, and teaches them about teamwork and pushing yourself. I would not be here today without youth sports, so it is important that I give back."The temperature on theRevolution Park turf was approaching 100 degrees. Newton didn't have to be there.But he was.He wants Germain Ifedi Jersey the next generation of athletes to have an opportunity to pursue their dreams, just as he did.Without programs likeSports Matteror the efforts of influential people such as Newton, those dreams may never come to fruition.
